ATTENTION: Sun outages begin at the end of September and run through mid October .

Sun outage or sun fade is a naturally occurring phenomenon which affects all geostationary satellites.

Sun fade occurs when the sun, our satellite (AMC-8) and the earth are in alignment.

The sun, a stronger source of radio frequency energy than our satellite, overpowers our signal for anywhere from a few seconds to a maximum of thirty minutes.

As an affiliate it is necessary to prepare for this outage in advance.

Sun fade WILL cause a temporary loss of audio on your XDS receivers.

The start/end dates as well as the length and intensity of the sun outage will vary by geographical location, and size of your dish.

Times also vary by location.

Once you have the Sun Outage Calculator open, select AMC-8, your territory and the city closest to your location.
